Why I started in 2011
By 2011 I’d seen enough moves go sideways down here to know what bothered people. Crews that quoted one number and billed another. Goods that got handed off to a stranger somewhere between the Seven Mile Bridge and the mainland. Storage units that flooded or cooked through a Keys summer. So I started Coast to Coast Moving & Storage to do it the opposite way: one named crew from load to unload, a flat price written down before we touch a box, and our own storage building you don’t have to worry about when a storm spins up.
We’re a real moving and storage company — not a broker, not a middleman. We own six trucks, employ about a dozen uniformed full-time movers, and run our own climate-controlled, hurricane-rated warehouse on Stock Island. When you book us, my people do the work, start to finish. Nobody gets subcontracted, and nothing on your move depends on somebody else’s schedule.
How we work the island
Key West moves are their own animal. Old Town conch and shotgun houses with tin roofs, no driveways, and lanes a box truck barely fits down. The long US-1 haul to and from Florida City — about 113 miles on the only road in or out. Hurricane season from June to November, when timing and storage planning actually matter. We built the company around all of it, and we keep our US DOT and MC authority current for interstate work plus our Florida intrastate mover registration (the FDACS IM# / No-Mover-Fraud registration) for moves within the state. Bonded, insured, up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage per shipment.
2011
The year I founded Coast to Coast in Key West.
6 trucks · ~12 movers
Our own fleet and our own W-2 crew — never subcontracted.
Mile Marker 0 to MM100
We cover Key West up the Overseas Highway to Key Largo, plus coast-to-coast hauls.
You’ll get to know the names. Renee Alvarez has run the office since 2012 and probably answers when you call. Hank Mercer has handled our estimates since 2013. Diego Santos has led crews since day one in 2011, with Brett Whitaker (2014) and Jamal Carter (2017) running the others. We’re a small outfit on a small island, and we like it that way — it’s how we keep the handling careful and the promises honest. Call me or Renee at (888) 711-4778.
